What is Sustainable Development?

Sustainable development is an approach to daily decisions that integrates probable consequences to the environment, the economy, and human health and well-being. It is a way of making decisions that balances the needs of today without sacrificing the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. -  source Manitoba Conservation, 1999

We have an important role to play with respect to sustainability, and can make significant contributions to an equitable and sustainable quality of life for all. We are responsible for our personal future, for the future of Canada and the world, and we can make a difference. If we act now to make Education for a Sustainable Future a reality, future generations will inherit a healthy planet. - source Education for a Sustainable Future: A Resource for Curriculum Developers, Teachers and Administrators (ME 2000)
