MCIC - Go Fair Trade

School: Warren Elementary School

In March 2012, the Warren Elementary Grade 7 class travelled to Gimli, Manitoba to participate in a Manitoba Council for International Cooperation (MCIC) workshop entitled "Generating Momentum for Our World: Go Fair Trade." Students learned more extensively about fair trade, fair trade products, and ways in which schools can help in this area.

At this workshop students participated in events that would later help them promote fair trade in their school and community. The mini-sessions included photography, video editing, silk screening, and theatre. By the end of the workshop students had laid down a "road map" as to how they wanted to deliver this message to the school. The school event plan took shape in the form of a Social Studies project where groups of students made presentations to each class at Warren Elementary informing them of what fair trade is and how it benefits our global world.
