December Newsletter in pdf format
We have had a very busy September helping 600 students settle into SCI! We hope that, from your viewpoint, things are running smoothly but we do understand that students don’t always let their parents in on ‘what’s up at school’! Students received a student/parent handbook on the first day of school. This handbook is meant to answer some of your questions and hopefully give you some insight into life at SCI. If you have not had a chance to see the handbook, you can find it on our website ( www.isd21.mb.ca/sci ) .
If you have questions that are specific to your son/daughter’s coursework, you are best to start by contacting that particular teacher.
If you have more general questions about school or just need to talk
to someone, please do not hesitate to call us at
467-5539.

We are off to be inspired by world-class speakers and entertainers! The purpose of We Day is to motivate young people to help children around the world. Several members of our various service/social justice groups and their teacher-leaders will join 16,000 young people to find it within us to be the change!
It is extremely important that we have up-to-date information in case of an emergency — please call the school as phone numbers or other pertinent information changes .
Thank you to those who participated in our QSP magazine subscriptions & Lamontagne fundraisers!
We are currently busy with 2 fundraising ventures...
Our Farm to School fundraiser will help support some of our school groups such as Circle of Friends, Special Olympics, Environmental Group, Youth in Philanthropy…
Our Human Rights Group’s Symbolic Gifts fundraiser will raise funds for SCI’s brother/sister school in Africa.
Any student who missed having their photo taken must provide the office with a current photo.

Post Secondary Forum
On the morning of November 23rd, SCI will host several Manitoba post-secondary institutions giving all Grade 12 students the opportunity to attend two presentations from a post-secondary institution of their choice:
University of Manitoba University of Winnipeg Brandon University Winnipeg Technical College Red River College
Assiniboine Community College Canadian Mennonite University University College of the North Providence College
Additional university and college visitation days will be organized in February.
If you need to pick up a student at the end of the day...you should not come into the parking lot! This will delay your departure by about 10 minutes as you must wait for all of the buses to depart first.
SCI has a school store that sells supplies, food and clothing items.
SCI has a student-run branch of the Sunova Credit Union!
SCI has a canteen that serves breakfast and lunch items every day.
Announcements are read each morning in first period. This is where you will hear about try-outs for teams, meetings for travel group, rehearsals for the musical and all the other cool things that are going on at SCI! Daily announcements can also be found on our website. www.isd21.mb.ca/sci
Cell phones are not to be used in classrooms. When cell phones are taken from students, the phones end up at the office. A parent (or another adult family member) must come in to pick up the cell phone - please call ahead if you are going to be later than 5:00 p.m.
We are not another fundraising group - we all know there are enough of those! We are a dedicated group of parents who see a need for a Parent Advisory Council in our high school. We need interested community members who have students attending SCI. Come out to one of our meetings and join us!
Mr. Jarrett Yaworski is available at SCI on Mondays and Thursdays from 8:30-4:30 in the Student Support Centre and can be reached by phone on-site at 467 5539 and off-site at 944 6235.
Jarrett will be available at parent/teacher interviews on November 24th from 5-9 p.m. Stop by the Student Support Centre and put a face to the name!
Parents, if you have any concerns regarding teen alcohol or drug use, please do not hesitate to consult with Jarrett.
AFM accepts referrals of students from any source, including parents, guardians or other professionals such as CFS, probations, adolescent mental health, and school staff.
