Just a reminder: In the morning and after school during bus loading and unloading, vehicles are not allowed to pull in or out of the parking lot. During bus loading and unloading the bus lights are flashing, the bus stop sign and arms are out. If you are dropping off or picking up students, you can park on the road if you do not want to wait until the buses have left the parking lot. Thank you for putting the students’ safety first.
In early May, all students in will have the opportunity to sign-up, practice and try out for the Grosse Isle Track & Field Divisional Team. As per Divisional rules, Grosse Isle can only send 3 athletes per category (primary, junior, intermediate), per event. That may necessitate a mini-meet to determine our participants. Students, start thinking of events you would like to commit to. This year the Divisional meet is scheduled for Friday, June 1st with a rain date of Monday, June 4th. The meet will be held once again at Stonewall Collegiate.
There are still some extra Grosse Isle School T-Shirts and Toques available from the school. T-Shirts are $10.00 and Toques are $12.00.
Yearbooks from the 2010-2011 school year are for sale at the office for $12.00. These are a great lasting memory of time spent at Grosse Isle School.
Mrs. Baldwin would like to send out A BIG thank you to all the students and staff who took the Day of Pink Pledge and wore their pink shirts on April 11th to take a stand against bullying and to promote a safe and respectful school environment. There was also a pink cupcake sale and a very powerful presentation by Mrs. Schutz’s sister, Ashley, on how bullying can hurt you for the rest of your life.
Throughout the month of May, students and staff will be focusing on ways to live a healthier lifestyle. Activities are being planned and more information will be sent home shortly. Mental health, physical activity and healthy eating will be the primary focus. Jump Rope for Heart will take place on May 25th .

In our continuing effort to increase school effectiveness, we will be implementing an online school survey for Grade 7 & 8 students - Tell Them From Me (TTFM).
TTFM is an online school survey that allows students to give their input into school improvement initiatives in an anonymous way. Students are encouraged to complete the survey, but may choose not to. Everyone completing the survey will be given a random username and password. Thus, respondents cannot be linked to their responses, ensuring anonymity.
The student survey will be completed online and will require approximately 35-40 minutes to complete. The student survey measures include such topics as social/emotional outcomes (e.g. student engagement, emotional health), physical health outcomes (e.g. physical fitness, risky behaviours), and drivers of student outcomes (e.g. quality instruction, classroom context). The survey also allows students to give their thoughts and feedback in an open-ended question response.
TTFM was created by The Learning Bar, based on the work by co-founder Dr. J. Douglas Willms. Dr. Willms is widely known nationally and internationally for his work on the development of educational monitoring systems, including the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. Since 2004, Tell Them From Me has quickly grown to become Canada’s largest national school survey.
If you would like more information, please contact Mr. Lawson @ 467-2560.
