PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

There were many things to celebrate in April. Our school choir comprised of grades 2/3, 3/4 and 5/6 had a very successful performance at the Rockwood festival, singing The Tree Song and Rocking In Rhythm. The choir achieved a mark of distinction and were complimented by the adjudicator on their pitch matching and blending, “great resonant tone”, and “impressive team work”. Congratulations to our students for all of their hard work and to Mrs. Good and Mr. Enns for the time and energy they put into our “excellent ensemble.”

We also celebrated our planet on Earth Day. Ms. Wishart and our MY Voice group organized a number of activities to help our students better understand the impact some choices have on our planet.

We also acknowledged the efforts of our students during Portfolio Night. Thank you to all of our staff and students for all of their hard work. There were many wonderful items shared and enjoyed. Thank you, as well, to our parents and other guests for your enthusiasm and encouragement.

Finally, congratulations to our badminton team for doing a wonderful job representing our school at the divisional tournament. Thank you to Miss George for her positive coaching.

May, like April, is a busy month. We will be doing some geocaching with our grades 3-6 students and our student council has an ice cream sundae sale organized to raise money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The WoodWren program is winding down but our track team is gearing up. Our grade 5 students will also be looking forward to Heritage Day at Lower Fort Garry near the end of the month.

As we are entering the last phase of our school year, we encourage our students to keep their focus and accomplish the goals they set in September. Your continued support, as parents, is much appreciated and helps every school year proceed to a successful conclusion.

2011-2012 WAM BOOK CLUB

This was the first year for our book club. The club is for students from grades four to eight. We had seventeen members join this year’s book club and we are hoping to do it again next year. The members voted Makayla B. as president and Isabelle M. as secretary. The members were: Amie P., Ariana H., Braxtyn C., Hailey F., Hannah F., Jennifer F., Shay-Lee J., Angelica B., Aurora T., Donna-Joe S., Lacey B., Marc N., Ramona C., Reanne G., Ryenn L. and Amber S. All members were a great part of our team! The first business was to decide on a name for our club, we came up with WAM Book Club which stands for Woodlands Amazing Mustang Book Club!

We started our club in October. We voted for the genre of our first novel. The genres we chose throughout the year were as follows: Adventure, Humorous, Mystery and Fantasy. We met every second Tuesday of the month. Activities that followed each genre were: book talk, charades, act out our favorite character for the book and we dressed up as a favorite book character. We prepared plays and performed before the school some of the different books that were displayed at this year’s Book Fair. We also helped Mrs. Tully with I Love to Read Month.

Next year we are hoping to take a field trip to either the Millennium Library or to a publishing company in Winnipeg. Another idea is to create a web site for our club. We would also like more members to join in the fun with the WAM Book Club.  See you next year.
